On March 22, 1930, William Thrower was born in New Kensington, PA. William "Willie The Pro" Thrower was known as the first African American to become a quarterback in the NFL. He entered the NFL Draft in 1953 and was offered a 1-year contract for the Chicago Bears as the backup quarterback.
